Mark 14:1-9
(1)
After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
(2) But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.
(3) And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
(4) And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
(5) For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
(6) And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
(7) For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
(8) She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.
(9) Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

Proverbs 15:1-4, 17, 23, & 26
(1) A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
(2) The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
(3) The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
(4) A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
(17) Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
(23) A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
(26) The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

The Changing of the Guard

Daniel 5:20-26
(20) But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
(21) And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
(22) And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
(23) But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
(24) Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
(25) And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
(26) This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.

Surviving Sodom

Genesis 19:1-13
(1) And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
(2) And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
(3) And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
(4) But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
(5) And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
(6) And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
(7) And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
(8) Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
(9) And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
(10) But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
(11) And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
(12) And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
(13) For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
